Living on the Fringe

What could be better than a distressed denim skirt, with a fringe bottom? Nothing….except maybe a chocolate soufflé topped with vanilla ice cream! Given the fact that this skirt hugs the body tightly, I won’t be consuming that any time soon. Yes, as you’ve surely figured out by now, I LOVE pretty clothes! And this skirt is high on my list for this summer. As I get ready to pack for my upcoming trip to Europe and Montreal this summer, you can bet this little darling by Junya Watanabe is coming with me. I was first introduced to this designer by my friends at Savannah. This store always stocks the newest and latest high fashion designers. Whether they are already established, or up and coming, Susan Stone knows how to pick a winner. Watanabe, always a genius when it comes to creating masterpieces from basics, certainly scores high marks here. Check out the rear pockets which are intentionally sewn askew. They add an element of modern art to the skirt. If you look closely at the areas of distress, you can see another fabric peeking through just enough to add artistic interest. Of course, the fringe is the real focus here, and Robert and I had a blast shooting it. He told me to jump and run to get the fringe swinging. This was actually not as difficult as it sounds even though I am sporting 3 inch Gianvanito Rossi heels. However, these shoes are truly comfortable and the slatted design allows the foot to expand and remain comfortable.

If you are crafty and good with a sewing machine, as I am NOT, you could most likely produce your own version. I know several people who could take on this project, my sister in law Aimee, who sewed her own wedding gown, being one.

If anyone is up to the task, I know we would all love to see the results!
