How many times have you heard the mantra, “you must not wear shorts after 40.” Even I am guilty of uttering those words myself. However, I have recently had a change of heart. First of all, I believe it is an individual choice. Some women feel good about their legs and don’t care if they have a wrinkle in their knee or a little cellulite on their thighs. I applaud these women….they are my inspiration and the reason why I decided to break the “rule.” If the short’s fit is not too tight against the thigh, or if the skirt in question doesn’t beg you to yank it back into place, (see here), then I say wear these items in the blissful care free way of days gone by…who gives a hoot?!  I believe that it is women, more than men, who tend to be critical of the way someone (usually another woman), looks in her clothes; guilty as charged, and I know many of you will raise your right hand and admit to the same. I tend to be hypercritical of myself, and although I have spent the good part of my adult life trying to change that, the best I can hope for is allowing time to ease the bite of it by simply letting our middle age mellow that voice.

That is why I chose this fabulous tunic by Worth New York, and paired it with their crisp cotton tasteful shorts. I even “went for it” and sported a high heel! During our shoot in West Hollywood, I did not have one moment of self -consciousness. Moral of the story; wear something because you feel great in it, that is what everyone will see.
