In case you haven’t been paying attention, my latest fashion posts have been filled with summer dresses. That is because I am a sale shopper, and as soon as the 60% off or "store closing" notices appear in my inbox, I hit the stores. From Missoni to Sandro, I picked up a few gems that I have been wearing everyday. I also picked up these Jimmy Choo platform sandals (the platform decreases the pitch of the shoe significantly so that you can add height and remain comfortable!). This one, by Sandro, is wonderful for several reasons, the first of which is the material. Knits always prove to be wonderful assets, since they pack perfectly. I roll all of my clothes into a carry on bag, whether or not I am traveling for 2 days or 2 weeks. I have got this down to a science. This dress came with me to Paris and New York, simply because it emerges from the suitcase in exactly the same condition as it entered. Fall is the perfect time to pick up a few knits, and you don’t need to spend a ton of money. There will be Labor Day sales in September and Friends and Family sales start in October. I will keep you posted on all of them!

For this post, I decided to do an outfit comprised mostly of pieces that I have owned for 4 -5 years.  I equate classic with black and white.  Since I did not want to appear dressy for a recent meeting, I decided on my comfy black cotton sweats by DWP and a super soft and oft worn white tank by Splendid. Because the temperatures have not climbed out of the 60’s this week, I threw on my wonderful go-to sweater blazer by The Row that I purchased years ago. These well “heeled” sling backs by Dries Van Noten, and my beloved John Hardy earrings, a gift from a group of friends for one of my birthdays, complete the look.

I hope that this inspires you to look through your closet before deeming its contents useless,  and to think of new ways to combine your old favorites!

Sugar Coated

Cabi Coat, True Royal Pants, Worth New York Tank and Belt, Jimmy Choo Pumps, Chanel Clutch, Christian Dior Shades, Cox and Power Ring, Robin Terman Choker and Earrings.

This coat by Cabi is a sweet deal. At $169.00, it is worth every penny. First off, is it easy to wear either dressed up with a pair of tailored pants, or casually with a pair of jeans. A dressy coat over a pair of pants does double duty as a pantsuit, but with even more versatility. In my opinion, it is a far better investment than a blazer.

In addition, you can wear it over a skirt or dress for a more polished look. Either way, you cannot lose. These days, when the temperatures have been mild on both coasts, it is a balmy 64 degrees in NYC today, you can wear this coat now and then again in the spring. Here in southern California, you can layer a sweater underneath for added warmth.

I want to reiterate that navy and black pair beautifully. I have many friends who ask me what they can wear with navy, and when I tell them, “black,” they look at me quizzically. Black and navy go together like salt and pepper. They don’t appear to be likely partners, but they compliment each other in just the right way. This coat would look great over a pair of black pants, skirt or dress.

Tonight marks the start of awards season here in Los Angeles, beginning with The Golden Globes. The city is abuzz with glitz and glamour and everyone has film and television on their minds. Soon the Oscar nominations will be announced, followed by the race to see all the movies in time for the biggest award show in Hollywood. All the department stores are stocked with award season gowns, and the stylists have rolled out racks and racks of spectacular clothes to be worn to the “before,” “during” and “after” parties. Jeff and I will be attending a few parties and I have begun to tear through my closet to put together some winners of my own!

This sheer skirt by Sandro is a perfect example of a one of a kind piece that is so French, it just screams “oo la la!” I found this multi-tasking top by Ramy Brook that can be tied in various ways. I chose to wear it tied over one shoulder to enhance the glamour of the outfit. I was immediately attracted to its dark eggplant hue. I love matching navy (or in this case deep egglplant) with black. Many women I know always ask “can I wear black and navy together? ” Yes you can; in fact, you must. It is trés elegante et chic! This silk and dressy black belt by Lanvin, defines the waistline and pulls the ensemble together. My tried and true sparkly heels by Dior, have seen me through many a dressy affair, and this little silk evening bag with the rhinestone snap closure by Badgley Mishka, that I have owned forever, completes the look. Don’t be afraid to mix and match items that already exist in your closet. If you are creative and imaginative, you too will come up with a sheer winner!
