Global warming is not a hoax created by the Chinese, as President Elect Trump would like to believe. It is very real as evidenced by the fact that temperatures here and elsewhere in the nation have been unseasonably warm. In New York and Toronto, last week, temperatures were in the 70’s, while here in Los Angeles, we experienced mid 80’s and 90’s…..in mid November. From an environmental standpoint, this is frightening. From a fashionista’s standpoint, this is a disaster. All I want to wear are sweaters, jackets and pants, but what seems more comfortable are summer dresses. I wore this lightweight one by The Kooples, that I purchased during the end of summer sale at Blooomies. Little did I know how many times it would see the light of day. I am hopeful that the weather will turn a bit cooler soon, and we will begin to be able to wear our fall clothes. In the meantime, we must all pay closer attention to the issue of climate change, in particular, global warming. Mr. Trump, are you listening?

Uncovering the Lace

  One fashion investment that I believe strongly in, is a good quality spring coat; if you happen to find on one sale, even better. In Los Angeles, a good spring coat will take you through chilly nights and cool winter days. In Canada and the Northeast, it will see you through the spring and well into the fall. I love this one for many reasons. Firstly, it is black so it will go with everything. There is no metal detail so you so you don’t have to worry about matching accessories to the hardware. This is a subject about which people have differing opinions, and so instead of delving into it right now, I will postpone the discussion to a future post. This coat is tapered at the waist, which is a feature that I, as someone of shorter stature, appreciates. This coat is well made and feels good. I know it is one of those “forever” items with which I will never part.

  This lace dress is by Sandro, one of my favorite designers.  The minute I put it on, I knew it would be a keeper. The lace detail is feminine, sexy and demure all at the same time. I wasn’t sure (and still am not), about the tie below the collar. I added the pearls to offset it and it seemed to soften the look immediately. The heels with their thin ankle strap do not cut off the leg.  One of my fashion pet peeves is an ankle strap that cuts off the leg. Unless you are a leggy five foot ten, it can be quite unflattering. This one, by Jimmy Choo, is not, because it is both thin and loose. Lace is provocative, but the way this designer has used it, is both simple and interesting.

Covering Up

  I know what you’re thinking…who wears a cover up as a dress? And why would you do that? When a cover up is as beautiful as this one, by Calypso St. Barth, it begs to be seen on the street just as much as around the pool. Since the material is so sheer, I simply donned a nude slip, (although I went back and forth on whether white looked better), and these adorable and more importantly, comfortable sandals and out the door I went. I admit that I did not head out the door in this to do my grocery shopping, but I did wear it to lunch as well as dinner, and I wasn’t at a resort at the time!

  This adds to the philosophy of getting more bang for your buck when it comes to the occupants of your closet. Accessories like fun necklaces, a cute bag and great shoes, allow for the transition from poolside caftan to city-chic dress; this makes it as easy to wear as it to look at. Try it…you will like it! 

A Sheer Winner

Tonight marks the start of awards season here in Los Angeles, beginning with The Golden Globes. The city is abuzz with glitz and glamour and everyone has film and television on their minds. Soon the Oscar nominations will be announced, followed by the race to see all the movies in time for the biggest award show in Hollywood. All the department stores are stocked with award season gowns, and the stylists have rolled out racks and racks of spectacular clothes to be worn to the “before,” “during” and “after” parties. Jeff and I will be attending a few parties and I have begun to tear through my closet to put together some winners of my own!

This sheer skirt by Sandro is a perfect example of a one of a kind piece that is so French, it just screams “oo la la!” I found this multi-tasking top by Ramy Brook that can be tied in various ways. I chose to wear it tied over one shoulder to enhance the glamour of the outfit. I was immediately attracted to its dark eggplant hue. I love matching navy (or in this case deep egglplant) with black. Many women I know always ask “can I wear black and navy together? ” Yes you can; in fact, you must. It is trés elegante et chic! This silk and dressy black belt by Lanvin, defines the waistline and pulls the ensemble together. My tried and true sparkly heels by Dior, have seen me through many a dressy affair, and this little silk evening bag with the rhinestone snap closure by Badgley Mishka, that I have owned forever, completes the look. Don’t be afraid to mix and match items that already exist in your closet. If you are creative and imaginative, you too will come up with a sheer winner!

An Outfit Worth Wearing

Worth New York has done it again. It has succeeded in meeting all of my expectations, and even surpassing them! I put this outfit together at the trunk show that I hosted with my friend, Sigal. Since the weather wasn’t particularly cooperative when it came to showing off cold weather clothes, I decided to wait until now to feature it on the blog. Although the temperatures continue to be warm here in Los Angeles,  I have chosen to give Mother Nature the “cold shoulder,” and model this fabulous ensemble.

Last Spring, when Fall 2014 was featured, so was color. It showed up on virtually every designer's palette and was a welcome respite from the muted tones and ever popular black that has floated down many a runway in the past.

This magenta jacket caught my eye on the rack, and beckoned me to try it on. I usually gravitate towards the more rustic colors of autumn, because I think that they compliment my coloring. Yet when I slipped into this jacket, both Sigal and I exclaimed “wow” at the exact same time. She and I knew instantly that this would be a keeper and certainly blog worthy!

The beauty of assembling an outfit from the same line, is that the colors used in one item are bound to appear in another; this warm and comfy pullover top with the paint like splashes of blues and magenta goes perfectly with the jacket.

It is all about details when it comes to the design of these black ponte pants. The leather detailing which outline the sides of the pant as well as the pockets, give an oo là là to what could have been a blasé pant.

I know I am wearing a “hit,” when passers by offer their thumbs up and compliments on my outfit during our photo shoots. That is exactly what happened when Robert and I shot this in Melrose Place.

Once again, Worth has proven its worth!
