Extending The Season
/This is how I extend summer into fall and winter!
Read MoreF is for Fashion, true….but F is also for Fun; and this outfit is what happens when you put the two together. I try not to take myself too seriously (although some close to me might argue that), and that rule applies to my fashion sense as well. I will admit that my foot situation has restricted the type of pants I can wear. Skinny jeans don’t work because they are too narrow to accommodate the amount of gauze wrapped around my wound. This has compelled me to get creative with with my style. In addition, the surgical shoe is about an inch-1 1/4 in height, making it tough for me to find an exact mate for my right foot without throwing myself off kilter. These Dior high tops are actually the perfect height. They are pricey, but these cute ones by Converse, are super affordable. With this outfit I have solved all of those issues while maintaining my sense of humor by adding this adorable t-shirt by Sachin and Babi. I scoured the internet for you but it appears that they no longer have it. I found something equally as whimsical for you here. Pairing this casual outfit with an otherwise serious, (mostly because of the Oscar label), jacket adds an interesting dimension and gives it a dressy/casual look. I found a great jacket by Iro that is similar and on sale here. I would love to know how you mix it up when you get dressed in the morning. Do you have a little fun? Please let me know how you style yourself, and include a photo. I am going to do a post where I feature my readers’ cute outfits and their sense of style! Let’s really put the FUN in FASHION!
Styling myself around this surgical shoe has been a challenge…but this time, my new silk neck tie saved the day!

Read MoreSometimes life throws you a curve ball and you have two choices. You can either lie down and surrender or you can take aim and attempt to hit it. This is what happened to me. Let me catch you up. Three weeks ago, I underwent surgery to remove a neuroma on the ball of my foot. A neuroma is an excess growth of tissue around the nerve at the bottom of your foot. I recovered quickly and required no painkillers. By day 3 post op I was in this boot, and according to the doctor’s plan, the expectation was that I would graduate to a sneaker by week 3. About 10 days post op, I developed a whopping infection at the incision site, that I have been battling for two weeks. We believe that I am on the other side of it now, but it was a huge blow to me, since I thought that I would sail through my recovery and be back to my old self within three weeks. Such was not the case. Now let’s put all of this into perspective. I do not have a life threatening illness, nor do I feel unwell. What happened to me is just one of those “it only happens to 1%-2% of people who undergo surgery,” kind of thing. Of course, being a nurse, I am cognizant of the facts, but being the patient is an entirely different story. Nonetheless, I decided to carry on with my life, get up and out… although truth be told I was relegated to staying put with my leg elevated, rather than galavanting around town in an orthopedic boot. Yet, when I did get up and go galavanting, I tried to maintain my sense of style; and paramount to that was maintaining my sense of humor.
So here is the 411 on this outfit. When I choose an outfit these days, I try to stick with short skirts or dresses that don’t interfere with the top of the boot, or skinny jeans that can easily tuck into the boot. I have been longing to wear this fabulous skirt by Theory, and yesterday there was enough of a chill in the LA air, to do just that. I found this cool top this past summer while at Bloomingdales in NYC. I have never heard of the British line, Edeline Lee, but I am glad that Bloomingdales carries it because it is comfortable , chic and well priced.
I have had this Gucci handbag for many years and so now it is considered “vintage.” The height of the boot, with all it’s padding, is about 1 1/2 inches, making it easier and more balanced to wear a 1 1/2-2 inch heel, rather than a flat.
I hope that this never happens to you, but if it does, know that you never have to give up your style as long as you maintain a positive attitude, because shit happens and you need to ride it out with a sense of humor!
When the invitation calls for “business attire,” trying thinking past your basic black and try on plaid instead.

Read MoreIt’s no secret that I love to shop; and shopping for a cause always grabs my attention. Such was the case a while ago when a friend of mine invited me to shop at an event where a portion of the sales went to the MS Society. I had never set foot in the Zimmerman store. I always picture their flowy dresses and shirts on more ethereal types. But I was in for a pleasant surprise when I came upon a plethora of items that did suit me. I had to whittle my purchases down and ended up with this cute dress that I can also layer with a pretty white blouse when the temperatures start to cool. Snakeskin is very on trend at the moment. It seems to be everywhere. You will recall that I took a t-shirt dress in this print on my recent trip to Europe. I cannot seem to get away from these low block heel sling backs by Marni. I have worn them over and over agin all season long. I find a low block heel and slingback are the perfect combo for keeping my feet comfy.
I was having a day with my hair, so I slicked it back into a pony and added a pretty scarf in these subtle colors that seemed to enhance the print of the dress, rather than fight with it.
I am so happy to have purchased this dress and happier still, that the proceeds went to such a worthy cause. Like I always say, shopping and philanthropy are a very suitable match!
I love flowers in any way, shape and form, whether on my clothes or in my garden.
Read MoreWho doesn’t love a dress that can be rolled up and packed into a bag for either a quick summer weekend getaway or a longer trip. And at $165.00, this was a no brainer for me, since I live in t-shirt dresses all summer long. Whether long or short, a cotton dress will take you far, travel with ease and roll out of your suitcase virtually crease free. This one, by Enza Costa, certainly did. I will admit that it is a little on the short side, but when worn with either flats or low chunky heels, it is perfect for either day or night. The little gathering on the side is a terrific waist defining feature. I really love the ease and functionality of this dress. I wore it in Budapest with silver espadrille flats, and here in LA with these extremely comfy slingbacks, that are now on sale! My white see through PVC shopper has been my go to bag all summer and I plan on taking it right through to the end of September.
Here are some of the looks that I created for my trip to Eastern Europe This was a trip I shall never forget.
